District intellectual property

All copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property rights belonging to Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District remain with the District at all times, and use of District intellectual property is limited to District-related purposes unless the Superintendent authorizes otherwise in writing (Board Policy CY(LOCAL)).

This page, together with Board Policy CY(LOCAL), is the District copyright policy as it applies to the HCISD Hub.

Trademarks, names, and logos

Members of the public, outside organizations, and vendors may not use District trademarks without written authorization from the Superintendent. Merchandise bearing District trademarks requires a licensing agreement and may require royalties (Board Policy CY(LOCAL)).

This includes the District name, campus names, seals, logos, mascots, and the HCISD Hub name and marks. Requests for authorization go to the Superintendent's office at Harlingen CISD, 407 N. 77 Sunshine Strip, Harlingen, TX 78550.

Work created by employees and students

Students retain all rights to their own work. Work created by an employee on District time or using District technology resources is owned by the District (Board Policy CY(LOCAL)).

What you post stays yours

You keep the copyright in the stories, photos, and other content you submit to the Hub. You grant the District a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to store, reproduce, adapt for format, publish, and display it on the Hub and in District communications about the Hub, as described in the Terms of Use.

Only submit material you own or have permission to use. If you are not sure, do not post it.

District policy requires the District to designate an agent to receive notification of alleged online copyright infringement and to publish that agent contact information on its website (Board Policy CY(LOCAL)). If you believe material on the Hub infringes a copyright you own or control, send a written notice to the designated agent below.

Please include all of the following:

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you say was infringed.
  • Identification of the material on the Hub you say is infringing, with enough detail for us to find it, such as the page address.
  • Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
